Voter ID Card Registration online application

Chief Electoral Officer of each state has started Voter ID card registration 2016 for all eligible candidates. You can apply for Voter ID card enrollment registration through application form online. After submission of application with required documents, you can track status of your Voter ID card, search for your name and download the Voter ID for your reference.You can also update your card in Voter list through correction form application online. The verification details of your card will be sent via SMS to your mobile number.

Elections are always in the queue every year, therefore citizens of India above 18 years of age should register their names in voters list updated on a regular basis in each state. Each state holds a supervision for handling voter list online by concerned registering authority and periodic revisions are carried out quarterly for inclusion of name in voter's list online.

Now even you can register your name in voter list through online application for your Voter ID card registration online. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has devised new rules and methods state wise for smooth revision and regular update of latest voter list district wise and sub district wise.

In early days, it took ages to get your name published in voter list which used to happen entirely on the basis of state wise name inclusions. Now the process has been smoothened by involving name wise search and electoral roll search according to Districts, Sub-district and Talukas. The electoral roll is usually published and revised in 3 to 4 months of time in different states based on the number of valid applications received in a period of time.

Voter ID Card Stepwise process of online registration

A simple chronological order is followed if you are applying for a fresh Voter ID card online.

  • Create a profile in EIC website (official)
  • Login and Download the necessary form as per your requirement
  • Fill the form details
  • Submit the application
  • Take the form and submit it to the nearest BLO or ERO
  • Get yourself verified
  • Generation of Voter ID number
  • Voter ID card received
This is the basic process of registration that usually is the same for all the regional state electoral name addition process.

Now let us take a look in detail how actually the process of online form submission and all takes place right from creating login profile to Voter ID card generation.

Registering, Downloading and Form filling process

You need to register first with a valid and unused Mobile No. to create your profile on Election Commission of India website. 

You can go to Election Commission of India (ECI) new registration page and fill your details like state of residence, mobile number and Email ID. All three should be valid (means not registered earlier) as confirmation link and code will be sent to these addresses.

Since you are a new voter, therefore you are eligible to fill Form 6 that requires complete details of the applicant who enrolls for the first time. You can see that a form opens which seeks all the basic information like constituency from which you are enrolling, district, date of birth, name, proof and all.

Kindly remember that the information you fill in the form should be absolutely correct as per proof of documents which you hold as a subject of justice to be produced for identity verification. Those ho have already registered earlier in their state of residence, but want to continue in their residing state may also fill Form 6 as mandatory for outside applicants.

Verification, Submitting and Generation of Voter ID number

After you submit the details online through the legitimate form, it reaches the head office department of the controlled district authority. From there, your form is submitted to the nearest BLO (Booth Level Officer) office or else in your constituency zone's ERO. 

You will receive a call / SMS / Email stating that your form has been received at zonal office. At this period of time, you are eligible to verify yourself by visiting the ERO / BLO's office. As a part of verification process, you will need an age proof, identity proof and an address proof to report yourself at the office hours.

List of documents as Proof of Address (Residence):
  • Driving Licence
  • Passport
  • Ration Card
  • Telephone Bill (BSNL and MTNL)
  • Latest Water Bill
  • Latest Gab Bill
  • Latest Electricity Bill
  • Bank Passbook
  • Post office passbook
  • Aadhar Card
  • LIC Policy Letter
  • MP/MLA certified authorized letter
  • Vehicle registration certificates
  • Registered sale / lease / rent agreement
List of documents as Proof of Identity:
  • PAN Card
  • College ID / Office ID card / School ID card
  • Passport
  • Driving Licence
  • Ration card
  • Bank passbook
  • Marriage certificates
After you verify the necessary details, your application will be completed in all respects and now you shall receive your Voter ID number in days of time.

The forms along with document xerox is sent to Central ECI authority to manually check and approve your form based on all data entered. Generally it takes atleast 90 days from the date of acknowledging the proofs submitted to the nearest office. You can manually check your Voter ID card status by logging in to the website. Manually you can also visit the respective state's CEO Voter list website and check the progress.

Once details are updated, your card reaches you to the nearest office in 15 days of time. An authorized representative will visit your house to deliver your Voter ID card.

Voter ID Card - Status, Complaints and Non-receipt of Card issue

If you are facing issues regarding your card receipt or for any delays in the voter ID card generation, then visit the nearest office to enquire about the same. We will advise you to wait for atleast 4 months since revision usually happens in 4 - 6 months of time based on urgency and applications received in the state.

If the card is yet to reach your home, you can obviously collect the same once you contact your BLO officer. He shall give you all the details regarding your card's progress, Voter ID official number and all.
